FREE ELECTRONIC WASTE RECYCLING INITIATIVE

 What is the program?

This collaborative initiative between Reworld™ and Goodwill Keystone Area is designed to provide free electronic waste recycling services across 22 counties in central and southeastern Pennsylvania. This program utilizes Goodwill’s network of 42 stores and donation centers as designated collection points for consumer electronics, thereby making it easier and more accessible for residents to recycle their e-waste responsibly.

 Why is the program needed?

Many areas within the designated 22 counties in central and southeastern Pennsylvania are underserved by the existing provisions of the PA Covered Device Recycling Act 108. This has left significant gaps in e-waste recycling services, particularly in densely populated areas such as Montgomery, Bucks and Chester counties. Without comprehensive, free e-waste disposal services, residents face challenges in responsibly disposing of electronics, especially items like televisions that usually come with additional disposal fees.

What is the goal of the program?

The primary goal is to collect half a million pounds of electronic waste within its first year of operation, aiming to significantly reduce the amount of e-waste ending up in landfills. By providing a no-cost and convenient recycling option, the program seeks to foster a more sustainable community, promote environmental consciousness and encourage residents to also donate gently used items such as clothing, books and household goods.

How can I participate?

Residents of the 22 counties can bring their unwanted electronics to any of the 42 Goodwill Keystone Area stores and donation centers designated as collection points. For a complete list of these stores and more details on accepted and non-accepted items, see below.

Holiday/Christmas Tree Disposal

Lewisburg Borough will be picking up Holiday/Christmas trees from Monday, January 6, 2025 – Friday, January 17, 2025 from Borough properties.  Please make sure to place your tree curbside in front of your home to allow for efficient collection by the Borough crew.  Tree collection will occur as the crew has availability and not necessarily on your street cleaning day.

Lewisburg Borough residents are also welcome to self-haul their Holiday/Christmas trees to the brush pile at the Recycling Center in the Wolfe Field Athletic Complex along St. Anthony Street.  The brush pile is open on Wednesdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am to noon (weather permitting).

Please note that the Recycling Center and brush pile will be closed on January 1, 2025 and instead open on January 2, 2025.

January 2025 – Change to Street Sweeping Schedules

Beginning in January 2025, Lewisburg Borough will be reducing the frequency of our scheduled street sweepings.  In an effort to reduce the amount of diesel fuel consumed, to save wear and tear on the street sweeper equipment, and to allow for the use of Borough staff on other maintenance related tasks, Lewisburg Borough intends to switch to a schedule where most streets are swept every other week (instead of the current weekly sweepings).  The new schedule will not apply to Market Street which will continue to be swept every Monday morning (weather permitting).  In addition, the Borough will continue to conduct weekly sweepings on the scheduled “No Parking” days if the street is particularly dirty with trash or other materials, if the trees are dropping flowers/seeds/pods, and when leaves are dropping from the trees.  Also, fall leave collection and winter snow removal from the parking lanes will continue to follow the weekly “No Parking” schedule (as needed).

Please note that the weekly “No Parking” restrictions remain in place as posted on our streets.  The Lewisburg Borough crew and other public utilities may undertake other street and utility maintenance activities on the posted “No Parking” days.
