Lewisburg Borough Named a Tree City USA – Ceremonial Tree Planting Scheduled
The Arbor Day Foundation has named Lewisburg Borough a Tree City USA, the Lewisburg Shade Tree Commission has announced. This is the 41st consecutive year that Lewisburg has received the recognition. To receive the designation from the Arbor Day Foundation, a community must maintain an active tree board, keep a tree care ordinance in place, document a budget, and hold an Arbor Day observance.
“Our Borough’s forestry efforts reflect Lewisburg’s commitment to maintaining a greener, healthier community,” Amy Levan, Shade Tree Commission chairperson, said. “The trees in our parks and along our streets provide shade, enhance property values, help mitigate flooding, support wildlife and offer other important benefits.” The Shade Tree Commission works to preserve, protect and replace the shade trees within the Borough. The Commission also strives to educate about sustainable tree care and stewardship, Levan said.
The Shade Tree Commission plans to celebrate Arbor Day by holding a public tree planting ceremony. The celebration will take place in the public right of way at Meadow View Court in Lewisburg at 3:00 p.m. on Arbor Day, April 24. This will be the first ceremonial tree planting to be held in Ward IV.
